To Write a Book Dedication

The time has not yet come to write a dedication in my book but I’ve had it written in my mind for years.

To Tom. You never read a word but I love you anyway.

Unfortunately, last week he read the proposal. And wrote comments. Good ones. So now I can’t use my plan. I might even have to thank him in the comments section or something. Go figure.

If you dedicated something you were passionate about to someone, what would you say? To whom?

To Ken, my best friend, the love of my life, who years ago turned my fairly predictable world world upside down, creating new experiences everyday, teaching me to live life to the fullest, and showing me how to fly.

      That’s great, where’s your book?!

I don’t have a book. You said IF I dedicated something what would I say …

      I know, just asking. :O)

    To Mike.

(I thought I had more in my head than that, but it needs a little organizing.)

(As for the book, it’s not written yet. I know its there.)

If you’re on the dedication, do you have a pub date?

Great! I love that you got stuck after that. I think I will end up with something like that too. Or not. We’ll see. No – no pub date, still working on the proposal process. It takes longer than I thought, but in truth, I’m thankful. If the book had gone out the way it was last spring, it would have been awful! My agent is thorough with edits and revisions and I feel like I’m learning a ton, and really getting a stronger book out of it. The dedication is just something I’ve always dreamed about – what hopeful writer hasn’t?!

Fascinated to hear about your process. Sounds like you have a wonderful agent. And yep, I’ve dreamt lots about doing a dedication. Actually, I think the dedication/acknowledgements section was the best part of my master’s thesis on contaminants in fish :-)

Ha! The question is: did you read the whole thing beyond the dedication?! And yes, I do have a wonderful agent. And yes, I am really happy with my agent.

    Rachel,

Saw a post of Kristie’s on FB about your blog a few days ago, and I am loving your stories and writing! Thanks for inspiring me and rekindling that desire to write. This post had me cracking up!

Yeah! Glad to hear it. What do you enjoy writing?
